Dunajská Streda is a historic town with roots dating back to Roman times. The first written records date back to the 10th century, and the town developed into an important commercial and craft center on Žitný ostrov (Rye Island). The name “Streda” (Wednesday) refers to the traditional Wednesday markets that have been held here for centuries. Throughout history, the town has been influenced by Hungarian, Austro-Hungarian, and Slovak culture, which can still be felt in its atmosphere and architecture today.
The town has everything you need – pleasant restaurants, cafés, a shopping center, a gallery, a museum, and various events, festivals, and markets throughout the year.
Today, Dunajská Streda is a modern city with a rich history and strong cultural heritage that is definitely worth visiting!
